The VFW Auxiliary is comprised of members from all walks of life with a common connection: all are relatives of those who served overseas in a location of foreign conflict. Nearly 470,000 members in more than 3,600 Auxiliaries across the nation work to improve the lives of veterans, service members and their families, and their communities in a variety of ways.  

 

When you join the VFW Auxiliary, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Support Veterans, Service Members and Their Families.
  • Participate in numerous avenues for service, such as hospital volunteering, the adoption of military units and promoting patriotism. 
  • Develop New Skills.  Numerous ways for members to acquire and utilize skills such as leadership, public speaking, fundraising, event planning and community outreach.
  • Network and Develop Friendships.  Through local and national events, members have the chance to meet people from all walks of life and many career backgrounds, creating a vast network of people who are passionate about veterans, service members and their families.
 

Eligibility Requirements for VFW Auxiliary Membership

Must be at least 16 years old.

Must be related to a person or persons who were or are eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States.  Those eligible are:

  • Husband/Wife
  • Widower/Widow
  • Father/Mother
  • Grandfathers/Grandmothers
  • Sons/Daughters
  • Grandsons/Granddaughters
  • Brothers/Sisters
  • Step-and adopted parents, children, siblings (and half-siblings), grandparents and grandchildren are considered the same as biological parents, children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, and may join the VFW Auxiliary under their VFW-eligible veteran.

 

VFW Eligibility Criteria.  There are three qualifiers, all must be met, for membership in the VFW.

1.  Must be a US Citizen or US National.

2.  Performed honorable service in the Armed Forces of the United States.  Must have a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or currently serving.

3.  Served in any foreign war, insurrection, or expedition, which service is recognized by the award of a campaign or service medal of the United States; or who served in the Korean Peninsula, its airspace, and territorial waters for 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days of duty, since June 30, 1949; or who earned Hostile Fire or Imminent Danger Pay.  To see campaign medals recognized as meeting the requirement for VFW membership click on this link campaign medals.

 

Proof of service.   Must submit a DD Form 214 to document the award of an eligible campaign medal for VFW membership.  Contact VFW Post 8273 for proof of service needed for 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days of duty in the Korean Peninsula, Hostile Fire or Imminent Danger Pay, or currently serving in the Armed Forces of the United States. 

 

 

Application process.  Submit the VFW Auxiliary application, proof of service for eligible veteran, and payment for selected membership to the VFW Post 8273 Auxiliary.
